This section describes the replacement time and steps of ink cartridges.

•	While handling ink cartridge, pay attention so that the ink does not get into eyes or stick to the skin. If the ink gets into the eyes or sticks to the skin, immediately wash off with water. It might possibly cause irritation and light inflammation of eyes. In case of any abnormality, consult the physician immediately.
•	Do not disassemble the ink cartridge. If disassembled, there is a possibility that the ink might come into contact with eyes or skin.

•

When filling up with ink, use the ink cartridge of original manufacturer product.
This printer has been adjusted for use of genuine ink cartridges. In case of using ink cartridge which is not a product of the original manufacturer,

•	Printing might become blurred and end of ink in the cartridge might no longer be correctly detected.
•	The problems caused by doing so will not be covered by the warranty and repair expenses will be paid by the customer.

•

Refer to the following for types and details of ink cartridges.

8.3 Options/Supply list

•

Do not give ink cartridges strong shake. Doing so may cause ink leakage.

•

Do not disassemble the ink cartridge. A disassembled ink cartridge cannot be used.

•

Make sure to use a dedicated cleaning fluid (model No.: VJ22-HEINK-CL).

•

Before installing the ink cartridge, shake it gently.
Doing so will preserve printing quality.

•

When the ink cartridge is moved from a cold place to a warm place, keep the ink cartridge unused for three hours or more in the printing environment.

•

Insert or remove the ink cartridge not more than 10 times.
If the ink cartridge is inserted or removed 10 times or more, it cannot be used even if there is some remaining ink inside.

•

A dedicated smart chip is included with the ink cartridge for this printer.
If you insert or remove the ink cartridge in the following situations, information contained in the smart chip will be damaged and the ink cartridge cannot be used.

•	During printing
•	For a few seconds after inserting the ink cartridge

Install the ink cartridge as shown in the following procedure.

Turn ON the printer.

•	"[KCMY] Discharged" is displayed on the operation panel and the printer starts initial operation.
•	After the initial operation is compete, "Insert CleaningCart." is displayed on the operation panel.

2	Take out the cleaning cartridge from the bag.

Install the cleaning cartridge into the ink cartridge slot.

•	Keep the mark of the cleaning cartridge facing up and insert it into the slot of the printer.
•	Insert the cleaning cartridge all the way to the end of the slot.

•	The printer starts filling cleaning fluid.

After the cleaning fluid is filled, take out the cleaning cartridge.

•	"During washing" is displayed on the operation panel and the printer starts head cleaning.
•	After the head cleaning is complete, "Insert InkCartridges" is displayed on the operation panel.

After the head cleaning is complete, take out the ink cartridge from the bag and shake it gently two to three times.

•	Slots for ink cartridges are specified depending on colors of ink cartridges. Match the color marked by the side of slot with the color of the ink cartridge.
•	Keep the mark of the ink cartridge facing up and insert it into the slot of the printer.
•	Insert the ink cartridge all the way to the end of the slot.

•	"Ink Refill **%" is displayed on the operation panel and ink replenishment starts.

•	The ink replenishment takes about four minutes. Ink filling operation and pause operation are repeated during the ink replenishment
•	When "100%" is displayed, the ink replenishment is complete.

•

Confirm that conditions meet the following points during ink filling.

•	Do not turn OFF the printer.
•	Do not pull out the printer power cable.
•	Do not open the front cover.
•	Do not push the media loading lever backward.

•	After the ink replenishment is complete, "Media End" is displayed on the operation panel.

•

If the printer is used immediately after the ink replenishment is complete, the following results may occur.

•	Printed line becomes blurred.
•	White lines appear in the printed media.

In such cases, follow "6.2.3 Head cleaning" and charge a small amount of ink. Then, check the printing result.

If there is no improvement in the printing result even after performing head cleaning, leave the printer unused for an hour or more. Then, perform head cleaning again and check the printed result.
